Christianity for You?
Alpha Print

Alpha

What is it?
The Alpha Course consists of a series of talks addressing key issues relating to the Christian life.  It takes a looks at the person and work of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Prayer, the Bible, Guidance, Healing and many more of the building blocks of the Christian Life.

Who is it for?
Alpha is for everyone.  But it probably best fits for those wanting to look again at Christianity, for new Christians and for those who want to brush up on the basics of the Christian life.

What happens on an evening?
Supper - There is a delicious pudding served at the beginning of each session which gives people a chance to get to know each other.

Talk - Each evening there is a talk which looks at a facet of Christianity.  Usually delivered, “live” it takes time to explore just what it is that makes up a Christian Life.

Coffee & Small groups - After each talk we divide into small groups to discuss the topic of the evening, ask questions and express opinions.

Listen, learn, discuss and discover. And ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.

When does it normally take place?
Alpha usually happens in the Winter term, between January and March.  But keep an eye out for it at other times of the year.

Our next course will start Tuesday 13 January 2009.

Christianity Explored Print

Christianity Explored

What is it?
Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who'd like to investigate Christianity.  It explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.  You're not asked to pray, sing, or read aloud, and you can ask any question you like. Or, if you prefer, you can come along and simply listen.
The course last ten weeks and includes a day away on a Saturday.

Who is it for?
Whether you have previous experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you. Everyone is welcome - from the most sympathetic Sunday schooler to the convinced atheist. We will respect your background, culture and beliefs. Tell us as little or as much about yourself as you feel comfortable.

What happens on an evening?
A delicious pudding is usually provided at the start of the evening (typically 7.30pm), so don't worry if you have to come straight from work. The course is normally run in several groups of 6-9 people, and after briefly discussing the course material from the week before, there is a talk or DVD on the theme for that week. Then the groups discuss any questions that have arisen, and the evening ends at about 9.30pm. Of course, if you'd like, you're welcome to stick around a bit longer for a coffee to discuss any further issues you might have.
And you can ask any questions you want, at any time during the course.

When does it normally take place?

Christianity Explored usually happens in the Autumn term, between October and December.
We have courses starting Tuesday 25 September - at 9.30am, midday and 8pm. Why not come and join one ?

2nd Look Print
We hear talks in church and read things in the papers relating to the Christian faith which we don’t always have an opportunity to “go back on” to question or develop our thinking further.  “2nd Look” provides a chance for people to ask those questions and find out more about what it means to be a Christian and follow Jesus.

Discipleship Explored Print

Discipleship Explored takes a look at Paul's extraordinary letter to the Philippian Church.  Participants explore for themselves the meaning of Paul's words: "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."  DE is for anyone who wants to make the most of their Christian lives.  In particular, DE is perfect for participants who have been through Christianity Explored or Alpha and have recently decided to follow Christ.

Journeys Print
Is a course which looks at some foundational aspects of faith, primarily through the eyes and lives of people who have experienced its power and influence over their lives.  The aim of the course is to get spectators to the point where they can make informed choices about whether Christianity is what they want to embrace.
