Sunday Morning Service at Mount Vernon Hospital
For in excess of thirty years a loyal and devoted team from Emmanuel meet every first Sunday morning 10.15am in the chapel up at Mount Vernon Hospital: first to pray and then take wheelchairs to the wards to collect patients and bring them down into the chapel for their half hour 11.00 am service of Christian worship and devotion; some favourite hymns, a time for prayer, a Bible reading, a Sunday thought. Other Sundays teams from local church denominations do the same. If the hospital radio facility is working, our worship service is broadcast to bedside earphones. It is a great time of informal fellowship shared by all, volunteers and patients alike. Sometimes our worship includes celebrating Holy Communion. Always interdenominational, for all Christians and especially for those still seeking a faith in their God who need to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
On Thursday and Friday mornings Barry Welch from Emmanuel, licensed by our Bishop as a lay-chaplain visits ward bedsides as part of Revd George Cobb's active team, stopping to chat to everyone, extending a welcoming smile, perhaps share a prayer and always inviting to next Sunday’s chapel service, even sharing Holy Communion with those who have said they would like to receive at their bedside. Focused on God, committed to one another, involved in His world centred within our local hospital outreach.
