Social Justice Team
At Emmanuel, our response to what we read in the Bible about social justice is to try to seek justice and mercy – expressing the love of Christ by providing for those in need. We stand with the weak and vulnerable –often working in partnership with others.
We are involved with social justice in many areas:
- Locally, we are part of HILLINGDON FOODBANK as a distribution centre operating in the Church Hall on Fridays from 11.00 am to 1.00pm – to exchange vouchers from Partners for food parcels for those in crisis. Community Lunches on the third Friday of each month.
- We want to raise awareness of issues surrounding mental health - which can often be stigmatised. In October we ran a course on mental health issues, Think Twice. We are planning teaching and training on dementia in March 2016.
- We have established an informal network group of people to offer support to anyone involved with adoption or fostering.
- Overseas, we have committed ourselves until March 2016 as Partners of THIRD HOPE -a charity working to establish a community in Northern Uganda for rehabilitation of ex-child soldiers .
Our Social Justice team serves to encourage justice initiatives - including issues like the refugee crisis, climate change and human trafficking - and look for other ways that we can seek justice and mercy in our local community, our Country, and globally.
Every now and again we will be posting articles here on a variety of current Social Justice issues.
