In the Workplace?
We are all called to be a Christian on the Frontline - that is wherever God has called us to be on a daily basis. For many of us that is in the workplace, and we all know that that can be very tough - sometimes starting the day with a long commute in a crowded tube.
To help start the day with God why not read one of the books about being a Christian in the workplace (many of which are listed here), listen to a Christian PODcast or Emmanuel sermon on your way to or from work or even visit one of the weekday breakfast or lunchtime meetings in London.
Martyn Eden has recently written an article entitled Work and Mission. Click here to download a copy.
Is there an opportunity to hold a Christianity Explored or Alpha course where God has called you? Let us know if you would like some support in getting a course started.
Finally - please let us know of any other helpful resources you have found.
The following DVDs are great resources for small groups or Discipleship Study Groups to work though :
1. Christian Life and Work, published by LBC Productions and Scripture Union and presented by Mark Greene and others. It is six part resource and step by step leader's guide will help small groups to know the joy of working for God from "9-5", make a difference for God in your workplace, support each other effectively at work and raise the profile of secular work in church.
2. God at Work is a course is based on Ken Costa’s book ‘God At Work’, and aims to equip Christians in finding purpose in their every day work, and to live it out effectively. The course comprises of 6 sessions, with each session designed to last an hour and run on a weekly basis. The course provides a Christian perspective on how to approach common challenges familiar to many such as:
- Purpose at Work
- Ambition & Life Choices
- Work-Life Balance
- Failure & Hope
- How to Make Tough Decisions
The theme of spiritual renewal is carried throughout the course. Each session is interactive, containing teaching slots, individual and group exercises, and discussion with other guests where experiences can be shared. The course is designed for small or mid-sized groups which can be run in either church groups or workplace fellowships. If your workplace fellowship is already running Alpha in the workplace then Alpha recommend the God at work course as an ideal follow-up course.
